Bio

Sara Culmann is a visual artist, designer, researcher and amateur anthropologist based in Amsterdam. They work between artistic research, digital media, video essay and game making.

Their main interest comes from the anthropology of technology and how technology forms cultural tokens, affects social power dynamics, and reforms human ecology, perception and habits. They work through modelling games and scenarios, video essays, and web-based projects.

They graduated from the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten and have been a fellow at the Young Academy, Berlin, and Het Nieuwe Instituut, Rotterdam. Their work has been exhibited internationally at venues such as STRP Festival (Eindhoven), HEK (Basel), Art Encounters Biennial (Timișoara), and Akademie der Künste (Berlin), among others.

They are a lecturer at Garage Digital educational laboratory, and more broadly participate in collaborative projects within theatre, investigative journalism, education and social design.
